Raat Rani : Morden Love Mumbai

This blog is a part of a task given by Vaidehi Hariyani Ma'am from The English Department, MKBU, Bhavnagar.

Raat Rani is a episode of a series named 'Modern Love Mumbai' which air on May 13, 2002 on Amazon Prime. This episode Directed by Shonali Bose, Written by John Belanger, Devika Bhagat and Nilesh Maniyar and star cast are Fatima Sana Shaikh, Bhupendra Jadawat and Dilip Prabhavalkar.

The story of this episode runs around Lali and his husband Lutfi. Lali is a cook, and her husband Lutfi a security guard, in an upscale apartment in Mumbai, far from their native Kashmir. Long days end with ice cream - one cup, two spoons - until suddenly he dumps her, breaking her heart and shattering her dreams. All he leaves behind is his old bicycle. But in the end she find her true self.

Let's discuss the main female character of this episode, Lali. While she may not be the smartest character, she knows what's best for her. After overhearing a conversation between a woman in the house she works at, who expresses her desire to live life on her own terms rather than dieting or doing push-ups, Lali becomes inspired to live her life freely. She decides to repair and beautify her own house, showcasing her character growth in an inspiring way.

There are three female characters in this episode who confront a male character regarding their perspectives on independence. The first female character is the wife of the male character, advocating for her rights. Her actions indirectly inspire Lali to seek independence. As the story progresses, this character's own thoughts evolve after witnessing Lali successfully running her own business.

Another female character in the episode has a brief appearance of only five or six seconds. She appears to be a typical nosy neighbor, always keeping an eye on others. It's interesting to note that she is chewing gutka or a similar substance. She stands out from the other female characters in the episode.

1. List down the contradictory symbols you observed in the episode “Raat Rani”.

Here are some symbols that I noticed in the episode:

Bike and Bicycle: The bike represents Lutfi's control and threat towards Lali, while the bicycle symbolizes Lali's independence and frustration. Her purchase of a bike for Lutfi represents contradictory symbols of freedom and dependence.

Flyover = Self Independence: Initially, Lali struggles to cross the flyover, but later we see her confidently crossing it. This symbolizes her victory over dependence on her husband and her newfound self-independence.

Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is traditionally seen as a symbol of love. However, when Lutfi and Lali part ways, it becomes a contrasting symbol, representing the end of their love.

These are some of the symbols I observed in the episode.

. “Courage is Contagious” – Give an example for this from the episode.

In the episode of Raat Rani, we witness the truth behind the statement "Courage is contagious." Lali exemplifies this notion when she fearlessly crosses a daunting flyover, which not only boosts her own confidence but also inspires others around her. Lali's remarkable courage stems from her ability to rebuild her life after her husband abandoned her. She has taken control of her own destiny and now runs a successful business, earning her own income. With newfound independence, Lali even delights in the simple pleasure of buying ice cream for herself. Her bravery has not only empowered her, but it has also sparked a ripple effect of courage among those who witness her journey.

6.Share a picture of yours with a woman who is your source of courage. Give a creative title to it.

Here is a Source of my Courage: My Mom and My Best friend

Peracetamol
Invisible Power 🌼

Here is a Creative title for my Mom and My Best friend:

"Peracetamol" : My friend is the medicine of my pain, just as paracetamol relieves pain, it makes me forget my pain.

"Invisible power" :

My MOM is not with me but still she supports me invisibly in every place and in every situation
