Photography Workshop

In this blog post, I will share my experience from the Photography Workshop conducted by Mr. Kaushik Ghelani on August 17th, 2023. The workshop, organized by the Department of English at MKBU, was a rich learning experience that not only covered technical aspects but also fostered creativity and deeper appreciation for photography.

Led by the renowned Wildlife Photographer and Filmmaker, Mr. Kaushik Ghelani, the workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session, running from 12:00 to 2:30, focused on technical skills and photography essentials. During this session, participants were taught about various photography rules and techniques. Following the session, we were assigned a task to capture five photographs applying the concepts learned.

The initial session began with introductions and welcomes, hosted by Trushali Dodiya and Riya Bhatt, and an introduction about Mr. Kaushik Ghelani by Avani Jani. Dr. Dilip Barad welcomed the attendees. The workshop stressed the importance of composition in photography, covering principles like the rule of thirds, leading lines, symmetry, and more. Lighting was also highlighted as a crucial element to transform ordinary scenes into captivating images.

Mr. Kaushik Ghelani emphasized key rules, such as the 1:3 Preposition, Golden Point, Symmetry, Depth of Field, and the concept of breaking rules. These principles were demonstrated in his own work, showcasing their practical applications. The workshop wasn't limited to technicalities; it aimed to encourage creativity through practical exercises, pushing photographers to explore unique angles and compositions.

The second session began with a review of the nature-themed assignments. Mr. Ghelani selected six students for critique and ranking. Avani Jani secured the first rank, followed by Dhruvi from the Live Science department in the second, and Drashti Joshi, securing the third rank. The session provided constructive feedback and learning opportunities for all participants.

Overall, the workshop was an enriching experience that imparted technical knowledge while nurturing creativity. It highlighted the significance of composition and lighting in photography, and the practical assignments allowed participants to apply their learning effectively. The session provided valuable insights and improved our skills in the art of photography.
